    Re: New From NeatReceipts!

We would like support back for other scanners.  The neat receipts scanner does not handle multiple page documents, booklet or other such sources as well.  We utilizwe the neat receitps scanner for most receipts, but we just purchase 2 additional neat receipts sets with version 3 for our technicians to use at the job sites and the software is useless without the ability to use a flatbed scanner of some sort.  The office staff thought they were just having operator errors when they said they could not select a scanner until the software was upgraded in the office.  Had we known, we would have returned immediately.  We can no longer use it for the approved change order processing from the construction site.  I know we are not a large office, but had this continued to work, we had 20 additional sets in the budget for next year.

NeatReceipts took a step back when they elected not to allow other scanners.  We will now have to find another solution unless they plan to add this feature back in.

Does the NeqtDesk provide flat bed scanning when the tray is removed?

    Interesting comments

as for database security, store the backup file on a flash drive  and or use encryption on it

64 Bit is here to stay , and alot of people want to use this scanner.

No Answer to any of these questions or many like them is very telling.

No Answers = they are not listening and are not telling us what to expect. To me, even an answer like " we are not working on 64 bit support at this time"  says that they are acknowledging our crys for help.

Saddly, i think my units are starting to look like garbage can filler in the very near future and it time to move on to other programs ( if any exist )

this program was a godsend in helping wiht paperwork, but if its not going to move forward, its time to leave it behind

    Re: New From NeatReceipts!

More info on the new NeatReceipts products coming out in Sep/Oct:

    Scan It In

    http://www.crn.com/retail/210200070?pgno=23

Philadelphia-based NeatReceipts, maker of scanners that let users scan and organize receipts, business cards and documents will use RetailVision to unveil four new products.

First up is NeatReceipts, which lets users create expense reports, prepare taxes, track spending, digitize business cards and create searchable PDFs by scanning documents. Data can be exported to Quicken, QuickBooks, TurboTax, Excel, Outlook and PDF. NeatReceipts includes a Neat Mobile Scanner (pictured) and NeatWorks 4.0 software. NeatReceipts will be available in September with a second version coming early next year.

Coming in September is NeatScan To Office, which adds scanning to Microsoft Office by installing a scanning toolbar in Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. It helps turn receipts into Excel expense reports, business cards into Outlook contacts, text and images into Word documents or PowerPoint presentations. It also includes the Neat Mobile Scanner and NeatScan 1.0 software.

NeatReceipts will also unveil NeatReceipts for Mac Advance Release, which lets users scan and organize receipts and documents in a familiar Mac OS X interface. Users can create expense reports, track spending and create a library of searchable PDF documents. It includes a Neat Mobile Scanner and NeatReceipts for Mac Version 1.1. It'll be available in September with version two coming in early 2009.

The fourth product NeatReceipts plans to unveil at RetailVision is NeatDesk. Like the other NeatReceipts tools, it lets users scan and organize receipts, business cards and documents, but NeatDesk uses a duplex ADF scanner. It lets users create expense reports, prepare taxes, track spending, digitize business cards and create searchable PDFs. Data can be exported to Quicken, QuickBooks, TurboTax, Excel, Outlook and PDF. NeatDesk includes Neat ADF Scanner (pictured) and NeatWorks 4.0 software. NeatDesk will be available in October.

The Neat Company snagged the best peripheral product award for its portfolio of scanning solutions that enable users to scan receipts, business cards and a host of other documents and make them digital. Its product line includes NeatReceipts, NeatReceipts for Mac Advance Release, NeatDesk and NeatScan to Office. Here the Neat Company accepts its Best of RetailVision award from Craig Zarley, Everything Channel industry editor.

    Re: New From NeatReceipts!

I think QB users want to know when NR will be able to scan documents of various 'transaction types', and then import them directly to the appropriate QB locations. For example, rather than just receipts, NR should be able to scan these types of documents, allow us to sort them into appropriate folders (Receipts, Bills, CC Charges, Payments, Deposits), and then accurately import them using the appropriate QB 'transaction type'. Importing only as "Bills" or "GJEs" is not acceptable. For example, at a minimum these are the most common documents to scan/import:

    BILL - Bills from vendors
BILL REFUND - Refunds from a vendor

CREDIT CARD - Charges you make on a credit card
CCARD REFUND - Refunds you receive on credit card charges

    CHECK - Checks

    PAYMENT - Customer payments
DEPOSIT - Bank or money market deposits

Ideally, other QB fields would be available to enter/edit such as Customer:Job (both for Payments and to assign Bills/CC charges to), and a Reference# (for bills).

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to version 4.0 if it includes this type of QB integration!

    Re: New From NeatReceipts!

I bought NR back in May because we had a house fire, and I had to keep track of everything that we have had to replace for my insurance Company. To be honest, I was very disapointed for the price. ( I paid a LOT more than $149.00)

I was expecting the software to log in every line of each receipt. Maybe I was expecting too much, but the box was a little misleading, and I didn't look it up on the www BEFORE i BOUGHT IT. Indifferent

I have a chronic illness and the fire inventory was driving me crazy! We have to keep track of everything we replace for a year, or they depreciate the value (including dental floss, shampoo, SCANNERS Wink - EVERYTHING.) It was a one room fire, but the toxic fumes allowed us to replace all kitchen and bathroom items. Medication, personal grooming etc. 65-85 pages worth of items, plus what the packing and cleaning company broke (another 6-8 pages-no joke). The Insurance companies HOPE that you will give up on keeping every receipt, logging the purchases in their form, and mailing them in, but even the items less than $5.00 add up. Over $1500 just in food, personal grooming and meds, and a year isn't that long when you are unpacking a whole 4 BR house!

I have a GREAT Adjuster, and she told me I could email her copies of the receipts, and just enter all the items in a spreadsheet, and email that too, and I was so excited to get NR, because I thoguht it would stream line that process, but it doesn't even make a clean copy of the receipts! Everything is stretched out, and barely readable. Using a flatbed is a pain because you have to load one receipt at a time. I finally bought Photoshop Elements 5 which will let you scan as many receipts that will fit on the flat bed, break them into several documents, highlight items, write on them, (with a pen TABLET-DON'T TRY THIS WITH A  MOUSE!!! Indifferent ) and save as PDF. It still doesn't help with filling out the spreadsheet form though, and it's a LOT of info about each item, old and new). My only option to use NR is to buy each item on it's own receipt, and that is NOT going to happen!

We will be using it for taxes, and our own records, or I might sell it on eBay. Hmm The new product might help - with it scanning into Excel, but I don't see how with just totals. If there is a way to do it, I need to know ASAP. I'm running out of time!

You know, someone has a fire every 8 seconds in the US, and each person has a 60% chance of living through one (so they told me). That would broaden Neat Receipt's market A LOT!!! It doesn't seem that it would hard to do with the program with a good scanner, and my adjuster was going to buy one when I told her about it, until I told her it only records totals. You guys could make a program for each Insurance companies' forms, and sell 1000's at a time to their employees, and customers. They might even help pay for advertising, and people could have an inventory BEFORE a crisis happens, which the companies WANT, so nothing can be added falsely. I WOULD pay $499.00 for THAT!

    Re: New From NeatReceipts!

    V4 Rocks!.

I had only just acquired V3 and spent a little while updating to 3.1.3 + the SQL patch and all was good for a day.

I contacted the good folks at NR after noticing V4 was available the same  day I had just setup V3 and they sorted out a free upgrade.

I downloaded the 50.3MB upgrade binary (V4.0.8) and it easliy without any errors upgraded and preserved my data.

The new software IS WORTH IT!

The background scanning engine is MUCH faster, I could barely keep up feeding the scanner!  And the same v3 scanner hardware actually seems faster? well thats only a non-technical assesment ;-)

The classification inbox tool is much better

I like the keyword search of arbitrary strings, ie. search for 'tabasco" and it would pull up the receipt of my shopping list with that item, this seems extraordinarily usefull to "google" my pile of papers - the holy grail of search is here ? !!!

and the PDF importer is there

Gotta run and  I'll say how day 2 pans out after I start up my sorry & sad "tub" of receipts

    Thanks NR
