    excel_grad,
I'm sorry, however, we don't have an ETA at this time.

also noting that xerox makes a machine, not portable but at least it will probably scan well and work with 64 bit os including the organization software.

well what a REFRESHING and PLEASANT SUPRISE!!! this item (fujitsu snap scan) ACTUALLY WORKS UNDER 64 bit and works QUITE WELL.  It scans nice and fast, processes documents into adobe acrobat, and comes with a variety of useful programs.

    Re: 64 bit operating systems

How about a 64 bit version already? I've been looking at neatreceipts for 2 years now, hoping and praying for a 64 bit version so I can pick it up. Now it looks like I'm going to end up doing as the previous poster did and grabbing a Fujitsu SnapScan. 64 bit is no longer a small subset of the market. Gateway just started shipping retail PC's with Vista 64 installed (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37279/135/). HP and ASUS also have x64 as options preinstalled. I'd venture to say that the Windows 64 bit market is much bigger than the mac os market you've been spending time pursuing. And yet you continue to ignore and totally blow off those of us on 64 bit, without so much as explaning why or giving an estimated release date. Mumbo jumbo about 3rd parties not supporting 64 bit. You've had the time to write a mac version from scratch. How about showing the same dedication to your current customers and releasing a 64 bit version for Windows? Instead of trying to chase down a new market, it might be good to support your loyal customers that are now screwed by lack of support for technologies that have been widely available for 4 years.

    Re: 64 bit operating systems

    teh is absolutely right.

The worst thing about NR not supporting x64 is that in most development environments it takes all of about 30 seconds to compile an x64 version.  I don't know for sure, but I would guess that NR is using a Microsoft IDE as well considering that their database is MSDE (the pre-SQL Server Express edition) and their quite a few elements of the interface that resemble standard VS6 and VS.NET control structures.  If that is the case, not supporting x64 is unforgivable.  In every Microsoft IDE known to man, compiling for x64 is literally just a few clicks of the mouse.  Same with Java environments as well, but I know they didn't build it in that.  So what we have is the worst possible software sin - a group that refuses to publish (or even look into publishing) a version of their software that is now widely demanded AND when it takes a few seconds to do so.

To the NR development/management team: you're not fooling anyone.  This is about you being lazy and unwilling to even look into the problem.  The fact that your response are "no ETA" or "no more information" etc demonstrates the point loudly.  Any developer could create an x64 version of the software in seconds, but you refuse to even look into it.

I have a NR scanner right now, but I will not be upgrading.  And I strongly recommend that no one else does either.  If NR will not listen to their customers for requests as trivially simple as this, that demonstrates a large and profound problem with how they see their market.

    Re: 64 bit operating systems

We do recognize that 64 bit is a growing segment of the market, although current estimates are that it is still relatively small, but growing.  It's probably not as easy to build as suggested in parts of this thread and we realize that sometimes there is a lack of understanding about how our application is built.  With all that said, supporting 64 bit has less to do with market estimates, our coding capabilities or our desire to support our customers.  Unfortunately, the key blocking issue now is support from some of our third party software providers that make up part of our application.  We are pushing them to do so, but so far progress is slow.

You can read more from our founder, Rafi Spero, in his ask the founder forum...

We would love to support 64 biit. And we will...when all of our 3rd party vendors do the same.

There is some code embedded into our software that does not support 64 Bit which is supplied by a 3rd party vendor. When they support, so will we.

    Re: 64 bit operating systems

well folks...updating to myself ...but anyways:

after a friendly link from fujitsu:

#1. scan snap manager....HAS WORKED AND CONTINUES TO WORK UNDER 64 BIT!!!

#2. Scan snap organizer...JUST DOWNLOADED THE UPDATED VERSION...IT JUST WORKS FOLKS..64 BIT!!!

    #3. RACK 2 FILER...THIS SOFTWARE ALSO WORKS 64 BIT!!!

#4. ADOBE ACROBAT 8.1 THAT CAME WITH THE SCANNER...ALSO JUST WORKS 64 BIT!!!
