Can this be done with Windows XP? A Directory Junction (MKLINK) seems to be a Vista feature. Could I use a shortcut instead?

Is there any way to move the SQL Server data files? If so, you could use something like TrueCrypt to encrypt the files. I use TrueCrypt to encrypt my Quicken files and my passwords. It's free and works very well.

I am using neat receipts on both my laptop and desktop and want them both to sync to one file. could I just use a USB thumbdrive to store the data? Any suggestions?

I think that I am in the same situation as many others. I store no data on the C: drive, only applications and scratch data (in My Documents). I use a second internal drive or one of several network drives for data storage. I hope that there will be a way to allow relocation of the database to another drive.
