    Import PDFs

I can't find a way to import PDF bills I download from utilities, banks, credit card companies websites, etc.

I feel this is an option that needs to be included very soon.

     Thanks!

    Re: Import PDFs

I can't stress this enough, but not having PDF import is really hurting our productivity with this product. Neatreceipts supports storing documents in addition to receipts, and it is very inefficient to use the provided scanner to scan larger multi-page documents. In addition (like others have mentioned), we receive lots of receipts online and converting each one to re-import them is a pain. The fact that you export PDFs but don't import them seems very silly to me.

    Re: Import PDFs

    Mr. R!

I have a workaround for you... A program called SnagIt allows you print anything into your choice of image files, much the same way you print a document into PDF format. The formats include JPG, BMP and GIF to name a few. You can then import the image file into Neat Receipts.

However, I have to agree with you. I say this with the caveat that I am NOT a programmer and know nothing about programming, but as a power user of just about every piece of hardware and software I own a good general rule of thumb is input = output / import = exports... Meaning if you can export it, you should be able to import it.

Additionally, for the NR crew.. A feature idea.... In addition to the PDF import... A NR printer driver would be really cool. That way you just print whatever it is you want to import.

     Just a thought!!

    Re: Import PDFs

We get quite a few Pdf's emailed to us also. Printing these to scan them in doesn't seem like a great way to save paper!

Is there a trial version of the SnagIt software? I would rather not pay the $40.00 unless we know it works. How soon does NeatReciepts think this flaw will be resolved?

    Re: Import PDFs

I am not sure this will work but worth a try ( I am still trying to scan old receipts and most likely will be at it a few more months, I have alot).  If you have e-fax attach the pdf and efax to your self and then save the received fax as a different format that does import into nr.  I know my efax allows me save faxe in different formats.  A little bit of a hassle but seems better than printing a doc and then scanning and your not wasting paper.....Hope it works.

    Re: Import PDFs

You might try the Scanner and Import wizard. I don't know if you can use the NR scanner (haven't tried), but if you had another (I have a MFD Printer) you could scan it in as an image (as another gentleman suggested).  If you have it, the Photo Gallery in Vista allows for meta-tagging of imported images to make segragation of these imports from the rest of your pictures easy.

I would also like to echo the need for direct PDF imports in the NR product.  In general, however, I find this to be an excellent product!

    Re: Import PDFs

I am using PDFCreator from Sourceforge. It is open source and falls under the GPL, no registration required. It is a print driver designed to create PDFs, but you can instead create an image file. So I print the PDF doc from Adobe using this driver and create PNG files. Then I import the images into NR. Downside is, NR only creates one page per file, even if you create TIFFs which allow multiple pages. Print one page at a time, and import each as a separate file. About as fast as scanning paper once you get the hang of it. Use 300dpi when you create your image file, otherwise it will print about half size.

No doubt, PDF import is a must! Hope you guys are listening... This is the only caveat that keeps me from recommending the product. I wish the PC mags had mentioned this when they reviewed NR, I might have kept looking. It works great otherwise.

    Hi tripl3d,

Thanks for sharing the information with other users.

The ability to import PDF's will be available in a future version.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Jenn,

I have the latest version of NeatReceipts (3.0.1 I believe) and it still does not import PDF, only images.  When will this feature be included?  Thanks.

Did I just read that the new Mac version includes this functionality?  What gives?

A year later, and no such ability exists. Surprise, surprise.

    Re: Import PDFs

Im a new user of NR based in Canada. I too would like to see the option to import PDF receipts which I receive regularly from vendors by e mail. The whole world is moving at a pace towards electronic methods of providing receipts. I receive about a third of mine this way.

If we are trying to save trees, how come the only way I can get these receipts into NR is to print them and then scan them in?

    Crazy !
