Jenn,  Are you saying that the "adjust image" does not to operate when I use the SMART SORTER option? Do I have any alternatives when SMART SORTER scans my receipts incorrectly? (With lots of black space on the side of the scanned receipts) My fall back position is to scan each receipt individually and then use the adjust image ...

The cropping feature should be allowed at all times, including Smart Sorting.

When I use the SMART SORTING option, about 1/3rd of my receipts end up in the DOCUMENT section. I can drag the scanned image to the RECEIPTS section. But the scanned image cannot be adjusted or cropped. So I end up with a small receipt with a lot of black screen. Any idea why the SMART SORTING option is not working correctly?

Another problem with Smart Sorting is the window that opens up when I select Smart Sorting. I am using the 3.0 version that shipped with my new scanner last week.
